Configure prize pools and approve payouts

Set up how prize money is allocated across placements, generate prize assignments from final standings, and review them for payout.

Prizes are configured at the tournament level. You define the prize pool, assign rewards to placements, and generate prize assignments once final standings are confirmed. Each assignment then goes through organizer review before it can be paid out. Participants must have completed their own payout setup, and — for monetary prizes — the tournament's escrow must be funded, before a payout can proceed.

Where to find it

Projects → [Project] → [Tournament] → Prizes, which has three tabs: Configuration, Preview, and Payouts.

Step by step

Configure the prize pool

  1. Open the tournament and click Prizes in the navigation, then stay on the Configuration tab.
  2. Enter the total prize pool amount and currency.
  3. Set the platform fee percentage. This is deducted from the gross prize pool; the page shows a breakdown of the gross amount, the fee, and the resulting net prize pool that is actually distributed.
  4. Choose whether escrow is required for this tournament. Escrow is enabled by default, and while it's on, monetary prize assignments can't be marked ready for payout until the escrow account is funded (see Escrow).
  5. Choose a distribution model:
    • Fixed — enter a specific amount for each placement.
    • Percentage — specify a percentage of the net prize pool for each placement (for example: 50% to 1st, 25% to 2nd, 15% to 3rd, 10% to 4th). Percentages must total 100%.
    • Points — award points instead of a cash amount for each placement.
    • Custom — define reward amounts per placement outside the standard models.
  6. Add a prize tier for each placement (or placement range — a tier can target a single placement like 1st, or a range like 5th–8th that shares one prize) and fill in the amount, percentage, or points for that tier depending on the distribution model. A tier's reward doesn't have to be cash — it can also be a non-cash prize (physical item, digital item, merchandise) or a qualification/advancement reward.
  7. Click Save to store the prize configuration.

Generate prize assignments

  1. Once final standings are confirmed, go to the Preview tab.
  2. Click Run Validation to check your prize configuration for errors. Resolve Prizes stays disabled until validation passes with no errors.
  3. Review the distribution preview, which shows the amount each placement would receive.
  4. Once validation passes, click Resolve Prizes to generate the actual prize assignments from the finalized standings. This action is irreversible.

Review payouts

  1. Go to the Payouts tab to see the resulting prize assignments, each showing the recipient, placement, amount, and status.
  2. For each pending assignment, click Approve to clear organizer review, or Reject to hold it and provide a reason — rejected assignments move to a held/needs-attention status until you revisit them.
  3. To approve several assignments at once, select the ones you want and click the Approve selected button, which shows how many you've selected.
  4. Approving an assignment clears the organizer-review blocker, but it does not by itself release funds. For monetary prizes, the tournament's escrow must also be funded before the assignment can proceed to payout — see Escrow to fund and release it. Participants who haven't completed payout setup remain blocked until they do, regardless of review status.
  5. Once every blocker on an assignment is cleared (review approved, escrow funded, payout setup complete), the recipient's prize is released to their configured payout method through the Escrow page's release step.

What happens next

  • Participants need their own payout account before they can receive funds. Direct them to Payout setup.
  • Monetary prizes are held in Escrow by default — fund it before final standings so releases aren't delayed, and use its Release funds action to actually disburse.
  • View all disbursement activity from Financial overview.
