File and Track Governance Cases With Your Project
Use Governance → Appeals to open a case against the platform — a dispute, investigation, or compliance review — and track it through to a decision.
Governance → Appeals is your project's case-tracking tool for raising matters with the Tournament Suite platform itself, not a queue for reviewing appeals submitted by your participants. Use it to open a case — an appeal of a platform decision, a dispute, an investigation request, or a compliance review — attach evidence, and follow its status through to a resolution.
Reviewing appeals that participants submit about their own bans or moderation actions is a separate workflow — see Reviewing participant appeals below.
Where to find it
Projects → [Your Project] → Governance → Appeals
(projects/[id]/governance/appeals/)
Individual case: projects/[id]/governance/appeals/[id]
Step by step
- Navigate to Governance → Appeals.
- Click New Case to open the form.
- Choose a case type — Appeal, Dispute, Investigation, Report, or Compliance Review — and a priority level.
- Enter a subject and a detailed description, optionally linking a tournament, match, related appeal, or related report.
- Submit the case. It appears in your case list with a status you can track over time.
- Open the case at any point to add supporting evidence — a URL or a description of an attached file — while it's still open.
- If the case is no longer needed, withdraw it from the case detail page.
- Once the platform resolves the case, the outcome (Approved, Denied, Partial, or Deferred) appears on the case detail page along with the reviewer's notes.
The case detail page does not include a ruling or decision form for you to fill in — decisions on cases you file are made and recorded by the platform side, not by your team.
Setting governance policies
Navigate to Governance → Charter (projects/[id]/governance/charter) to see your project's published governance reference — its mission statement, fair play principles, governance structure, and compliance commitments. The charter page is a static, printable reference: use its Print or Export PDF buttons to share it with staff and participants. It does not currently have an editable form — plan your policies elsewhere and treat this page as the document you circulate once they're finalized.
Reviewing participant appeals
When a participant disputes a ban or other moderation action taken against their account, that appeal does not appear in the project-level Governance → Appeals case list above. It goes to the platform-wide Appeals dashboard, which shows every ban appeal across your organization regardless of project:
- Open the Appeals dashboard from the top-level navigation (not inside a project).
- Filter by status — Pending, Under Review, Escalated, or Resolved — or search by participant.
- Expand an appeal to review the participant's stated reason and any evidence they attached, alongside the original decision being appealed.
- Make a decision:
- Upheld — the original action is maintained.
- Reduced — the action's severity or duration is lowered (for example, shortening a ban).
- Overturned — the action is removed and the participant's access is restored.
- Add review notes explaining your reasoning, then submit. Leave Notify participant checked (the default) so they receive an automatic notification of the outcome.
- If the appeal needs a different kind of review instead — for example, a match ruling that needs a referee's call — escalate it to Moderator, Officiating, or Governance rather than deciding it yourself.
The same review queue is mirrored for moderators inside the player-facing site's moderation area.
Public transparency reporting
Aggregate appeal outcomes and status breakdowns for your organization are available on the public transparency/status page on your player-facing site, so participants can see how appeals have generally been resolved without needing access to individual case details.
What happens next
- Cases (Governance → Appeals, project-scoped): resolved cases show their outcome and reviewer notes on the case detail page; withdrawn cases are removed from the active list.
- Participant ban/moderation appeals (platform-wide Appeals dashboard): upheld appeals close with no change; reduced and overturned appeals update the participant's status automatically, and the participant is notified the moment a decision is submitted.
For handling disputes during live play, see Officiating and disputes. To control which staff members can access the appeals queue, see Permissions and admins.
