Create a Tournament
Walk through the 5-step tournament creation wizard — basic info, format and schedule, visibility, advanced settings, and final review.
Every tournament lives inside a project. Before you start, make sure you have a project set up — then you can create as many tournaments as that project needs, each with its own settings, brackets, and participant list.
Where to find it
Navigate to Projects → [Your Project] → Tournaments → Create tournament.
Choosing how to start
When you open Create tournament, pick one of three starting points:
- From scratch — build the tournament manually through the creation wizard described below.
- From a template — browse the template library and pre-fill the wizard with a saved configuration. See Tournament Templates.
- By duplicating an existing tournament — copy the settings, structure, and branding of a tournament you already ran, then adjust dates and details. See Duplicate a Tournament.
The rest of this article covers creating a tournament from scratch.
The creation wizard
Building a tournament from scratch walks you through a 5-step wizard. You can move back to any step you've already completed before you submit, and nothing is created until you confirm on the final review step.
Step 1 — Basic Info
- Enter a tournament name. The name is used to generate the tournament's public URL when it's created, so it becomes visible to players as soon as the tournament goes live — there is no separate internal-only name.
- Add an optional description.
- Select the game or discipline the tournament is for.
- Choose the platform participants will play on. The available options depend on the discipline you selected — only platforms that game actually supports are listed, and a cross-platform option appears only if the discipline supports cross-platform play.
Step 2 — Format & Schedule
-
Choose the tournament format:
- Single Elimination
- Double Elimination
- Round Robin
- Swiss
- Group Stage + Elimination
See Tournament Structure and Formats for how each format plays out.
-
Choose the participant type:
- Solo players — individual registrants competing as themselves.
- Teams — rosters of multiple players registering under a team name.
-
Set max participants — the tournament's bracket size. Choose from 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, or 512.
-
Set the registration deadline — the date and time sign-ups close.
-
Set the start date — when the tournament begins.
-
Choose the timezone used for the tournament's dates and times: UTC, Eastern (ET), Pacific (PT), London (GMT/BST), Central European (CET), Japan (JST), China (CST), or Sydney (AEST).
Step 3 — Visibility
- Choose a visibility level:
- Public — listed and open to everyone.
- Unlisted — not listed publicly, but reachable by anyone with the link.
- Private — restricted to invited participants only.
- Toggle allow spectators to let non-participants watch matches.
- Toggle require approval if you want to manually approve each registration instead of accepting sign-ups automatically.
Step 4 — Advanced
- Choose the match format — Best of 1, Best of 3, Best of 5, or First to X.
- Choose the seeding method used to place participants into the bracket.
- Add optional rules — free-text rules or notes for participants.
- Toggle auto check-in if you want participants checked in automatically rather than confirming manually before matches start.
Step 5 — Review
Review every setting you entered across the previous steps — basic info, format and schedule, visibility, and advanced settings are all summarized on this screen. Once everything looks right, click Create.
What happens next
Your tournament is created in draft mode — it is private and not visible to players yet. The next step is to configure your settings. Start with Tournament Settings Overview to see all available configuration tabs, or jump straight to Registration Settings to open sign-ups. When everything is ready, follow Publish and Go Live to make the tournament public.
